A certain brother once wrote this when it seems all hell is breaking loose on a message board or in daily living. There are vessels of honor and dishonor yet they all fullfill our Fathers purpose and plan. Even the dis-honarable vessels will be broken to be made new again after they have completed there purpose.
During the Vietnam war the most hated of all duties was latrine duty. For the forward bases this wasn’t simply cleaning the porcelain, No, it was much worse.
The forward base version of a latrine involved an outhouse,
With a 55 gallon drum cut in half and slid under the hole you sat on.
Latrine duty in these bases involved sliding the full drums out from under their holes,Mixing in diesel and burning the contents until gone. The real nasty part of the job, however, was they couldn’t simply pour the diesel in, light it and leave.
If they did this the diesel would simply rise to the top and burn off leaving the sewage behind.
Instead, those who were put on this most hated of duties had to stand and stir the flaming sewage/diesel cocktail to ensure the sewage was actually burnt off. This resulted in the stirrer being saturated with the smell of burning sewage, making him rather unpopular until he was clean again.
This was an absolutely essential job,But nobody wanted it, or liked doing it,And understandably so. It wasn't a volunteer postition,it was assigned by the commander.
Perhaps when one of us stirs up a s**t storm We are simply fulfilling a necessary function. Helping to stir the stuff so it can be burnt off in the Refiner’s fire. Keeping the spiritual sewage from building up and overflowing, And giving us opportunity. And it is my belief most, if not all, fulfill this role at one time or another, so perhaps we will remember this next time someone is assigned Shite stirring duty.
